If there is any place better to enjoy a crisp, refreshing beer than out in nature, I haven’t been there. And that is, fittingly, how I plan to enjoy my four-pack of Hopworks‘ new Organic West Coast IPA brewed for the Earth to Beer campaign. Spearheaded by Portland-based beer booster Eric Steen, Earth to Beer tapped breweries across the country to participate in the environmental initiative. Each was tasked with crafting a beer with environmentally responsible sourcing for the recipe. In addition, each participating brewery—from Coronado in San Diego to Brewery Vivant in Grand Rapids—made an upfront cash donation of $1,000 to a local-to-them environmental organization.

The Hopworks Earth to Beer brew is a true West Coast IPA, with bright, piney aromas and a crisp and bitter backbone. The recipe utilizes organic pale and pilsner malts and a spectrum of hops, both organic and certified Salmon-Safe. For the campaign, the brewery donated to its ongoing partner, Oregon Wild, which works to preserve the state’s wild lands, wildlife, and waterways. The Hopworks brew will be distributed across Western states, and you can also scope out all of the Earth to Beer participants to find a brewery near you. For Earth Day, or any day, go drink some beer outside.
